PROFESSIONAL EYEBROW SHAPING

Before you can begin shaping your eyebrows, it’s important to take note of what the parameters are:

1. The beginning of your brow should be parallel to the inside corner of your eye;.
2. Your arch should be right outside your iris;
3. The end of your eyebrow should not go past the outer corner of your eye; and,
4. The beginning and end of your eyebrows should be horizontal to each other

I’m not in favor of unnaturally angular or round eyebrows but I do believe in a modified hybrid of the two. I’d like to show you my four quick and easy steps to shape and groom your eyebrows. Some people only need Steps 1 and 2 but most people, like me, need all 4.

If you’d like to follow along, you will need:

1. Angular brush
2. Spoolie brush (sometimes attached to a brow pencil)
3. Brow pencil (adheres to skin better than shadow)
4. Brow shadow or colored gel (perfect for adding texture or changing the color of your eyebrow hair)

Some of you are probably asking, “What about this stencil I bought – the one I lost, found and only used once? Honestly, I’m not a big fan of mass produced stencils. Don’t get me wrong, the concept is very appealing but for most people it’s not very practical at all. And you would be quite surprised to know who else agrees with me… You do. All of you who have purchased a similar piece of plastic with a hole in it, that you lost, found, and no longer using. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anybody.

Okay, now back to your assignment. If you forget everything I’ve said up to this point, study and commit the next four steps to memory: When you do, you will nail the perfect eyebrow every time.

Step 1: Make a strong statement by identifying the beginning, middle and end of your eyebrow shape. You can do this by drawing an angular line with your pencil, angular brush with shadow or both. If you have plenty of hair, a professional should tweeze out everything below that guide line.

Step 2: Your eyebrow edges should have a soft edge to them. You can achieve this by having a professional trim them that way for you or if you are filling them in or drawing them on completely, don’t draw a straight line, draw a line with an ever so slight bend to it. Again with your pencil or shadow and with a shade that compliments or is slightly lighter than your hair

Step 3: These next two steps only apply if you are filling in or creating an entirely new eyebrow. Take that same color that you are using and fill in the shape that you’ve just created.

Step 4: Now use a sharpened pencil slightly darker than the first color used and create hair-like strokes. Use a spiral brush to soften the effects and WHOALA! Another beautiful eyebrow has been born.

Okay here are the cliff notes on how to shape and groom your eyebrows:

Step 1: Create an angular guide line to establish the beginning, middle and end of
your eyebrows shape.
Step 2: Create a soft top edge
Step 3: Fill in the shape, if needed
Step 4: Draw hair like strokes, if needed
